Pixel front-facing cameras are a strange place for a few years. The Pixel 2 in 2017 was an amazing leap for taking Smartphone photos, but similar to Night Sight on the side, the Pixel 3, 4, and Pixel 5 had many changes to the same hardware and software formula, making that sometimes sounds like compliant tweaks in addition to the obvious improvements in image quality.
It is because of Google's credit that they are still sitting among the best phone cameras you can buy. If Samsung or One Plus has the same triple sensor of its best device, they can be laughed at there.
Google pixel 6 First, Google still uses the same Sony main XX66 12.2-megapixel sensor as in a few Pixel phones. Google told you for the last time last year that a similar sentiment was helping its Pixel camera team to refine generation technology and that it was not part of a market that I could have better suited the company's needs.
Google has spent years cleaning up software that discards this sensor and doesn't really want to start much from the beginning. What they will need to do if they decide to change their senses. By 2021, however, the competition was not over but it was getting better in the camera department.

But personally, I do not think Google will choose this sensor because Sony has not yet announced it and there is no timeline for them to do so. Google needs time to upgrade the camera sensor on its Smartphone's; make a good algorithm, and more. So it is not possible with Google to be done. It is also possible that Google can go with the Samsung GN2 camera sensor which is the largest sensor we have on the Smartphone at least 1 / 1.12 inches. The reason I say Pixel 6 is probably you have this sensor is that this 50MP sensor not only gives a great size of sensors but big pixels (1.4 microns) as well. Pixel size, in particular, is well known, as this is almost identical to the size of the IMX363 used on most Google Pixel phones including the Pixel 5.
So Google may need to make some major adjustments to the software algorithm as the Pixel size is similar, there will be more similarities in part of technology, and they know what needs to be done. In any case, Google needs a better sensor.
They have been training their rivals for years and forcing them to raise their game in the camera department, and now that our rivals are holding on, and doing better, it's time for Google to finally get a new sensor with the Pixel 6.
